An ideal location from which to explore the magnificent scenery of the North and West Highlands, Moray, Speyside, the Cairngorms and Aberdeenshire.
The 1645 Inn is situated in the picturesque village of Auldearn just two miles east of Nairn.
The McMahon family took ownership of the Inn in September 2019 and renamed it after the date of the Battle of Auldearn.
The Inn now features 14 cosy en-suite bedrooms, a welcoming public bar and the outstanding FORTYFIVE bistro.
The Inn was originally a mill and holds fantastic history, the mill was converted into a hotel in 1973 which was then called The Millstone.
The Boath Doocot is a restored dovecote which was originally built in the late 1600s as part of the estate of Boath House. The Boath Doocot which overlooks the battle site and the 1645 Inn, was built atop a 12th century castle motte and was donated to the National Trust of Scotland in 1947 by Brigadier J. Muirhead of Boath. The motte on which it stands was erected by William the Lion around 1180 and is known as the old Castle of Eren – from which the village takes its name Auldearn.
The Doocot is a 2-minute walk from the Inn and offers a fantastic panoramic view, well worth a visit.
As you wander around Auldearn today this sense of history comes back through the names of The 1645 Inn; nearby Battle Hill and less positively Dead Man’s Wood where many of the Covenanters were buried.
